Bani is trained in both classical and contemporary Asian music. She received training in Sitar as well as vocal music from music maestros including Pundit Manilal Nag, Ramanuj Dasgupta, Biman Mukherjee, and Shreemati Anasua Mukherjee.

She is the founder and director of Scotland’s most popular Asian music group, Sangeet Mala, and has collaborated with musicians from all over the world, including Julie Fowlis, Colin Blakey, Sheena Wellington and Kim Ho Ip. She draws inspiration from many traditions and performs in English, Urdu, Tamil, Hindi and Bengali, often in surprising combinations.

She has recently released a solo CD Upasana, a collection of devotional songs.
